Newworldaquarium

Newworldaquarium is the alter ego of Amsterdam based Jochem Peteri (1971), named after a New York aquarium supply store. Peteri has released only a handful of records over the last sixteen years – slow, drawn out house dirges – under various monikers: Newworldromantic, Ross 154, and 154. With tracks licensed to Carl Craig and classic releases on Delsin and Peacefrog, Peteri has remained mysteriously under the radar. His sophomore album, The Dead Bears arrived in early 2008, fifteen years after his debut on Dutch techno imprint Eevo-Lute Muzique.

Though he began making hip-hop and electro oriented music in the mid 80s with a borrowed a Roland 101 and a Dr. Rhythm 110, Peteri's first release didn't appear until the early 90s. The first was a co-production with Arnout Winkler under the name Pallas – a short lived project that produced a single recording titled A Taste of Ulysses that was released on early Dutch house label Lower East Side Records in 1991. Peteri's first solo effort, under alias Ross 154, was issued by Eevo-Lute Muzique and was called Fragments (1993). Over the next several years, there were further projects for 100%Pure, Delsin, Peacefrog and New Religion.

Peteri's second release for Delsin as Newworldaquarium, Tresspassers (2001) was licensed by Carl Craig for his own Planet E label, and included the title track on his much lauded The Workout mix CD. The Planet-E 12 never officially came out, and exists only as test-pressing of 300. The EP was re-released by Delsin in 2007. In late 2001, Peteri set up his own label, NWAQ, to release his material. The first production was a split release between two of his monikers, Newworldromantic and Ross 154. NWAQ later released two EPs from other artists, Aroy Dee and Terry Brookes. As 154 Peteri released his debut album Strike (Delsin, 2004). The album was a compilation of new and old material; both previously released and never published. His second full-length Newworldaquarium - The Dead Bears (NWAQ / Delsin) was released in early 2008. Peteri rarely makes live appearances, occasionally DJ, but never playing live.

Newworldaquarium and FabFilter

"FabFilter. Finally a set of plugs which are tweakable into infinity, sounding musical and up to par with my hardware (I'm getting old an nostalgic me think) and with an interface even I understand without losing control. Or should I say making me lose control finally when in the digital realm. Faves are Volcano and Timeless, they seem to fit best with my sound. Serious fun, if you ask me :)"
