Verneri Lumi

Verneri Lumi is a sound designer/musician living in Helsinki, Finland. He works in contemperary circus, dance, theater and film productions. Verneri also performs live as an electronic musician and makes music in a band called RinneRadio. He is especially interested in using acoustic and concrete sounds and manipulating them through electronics in real-time.

"As a teenager I started playing guitar, and pretty soon got interested in using sound effects a lot. Then I moved to drums because we couldn't find a drummer for the band I was playing in. But I have always been more in rhythm and sound than harmonics. Then, around 10 years ago, I saw Richie Hawtin perform, and it blew me away. I got into techno and minimalistic kind of sound manipulation. There was no turning back after that."

"With some performing artists it is possible to use live mics and sound manipulation with movement and/or set design being the source of the sound. We also started to experiment with 3D animator and visual artist Merja Nieminen and are now trying to create a performance that experiments with different spaces in visuals and sound with strong interaction in a live improvisatory environment."

Verneri Lumi and FabFilter

"A friend of mine gave me a hint to try out your stuff, it was very nice thing to do. At that day I was in the middle of mixing a song for our bands next album, and struggling which way to go with it. So just when I thought I needed a break, I opened Timeless to see what it was like. I put it in the lead clarinet channel and it was exactly where it needed to go. In a couple of hours the song had a new character and mood which it had been missing totally. So you do have a good karma. Now I use Timeless and Volcano a lot, even live, to try out what else I could find behind the sounds I already hear."
