Overview
FabFilter Twin's interface is divided into three sections. The upper section
contains the oscillators and filters, together with general settings
such as portamento, volume and stereo spread. The bottom section contains the
modulation sources such as the three LFOs and three envelope generators, and general MIDI and polyphony settings. The middle section
contains 24 modulation slots which can be used to modulate almost any parameter
with any modulation source.

- Top section
The two oscillators and the noise oscillator
are the heart of the synthesizer, producing the raw tones that are modified
by the other components. The multi-mode filters
alter the tones from the oscillators to make them warmer and less harsh, or
to add various effects. Like true analogue filters, they can easily be driven
to self-oscillation to create completely distorted sounds, or a warm lead
with a little raw edge. The oscillators and filters can be routed in serial,
parallel of per-oscillator mode. Most of the oscillator and filter parameters
can be modulated by FabFilter Twin's modulation sources. At the far right,
there is an output section with volume and stereo
spread settings.
- Middle section
The middle section contains 24 modulation slots, of
which 8 are visible at a time. For every modulation slot you can specify
a source, a target and a modulation level. Also, the modulation signal can
be inverted or temporarily disabled. The easiest way to work with the modulation slots is by using drag-and-drop.
- Bottom section
The bottom section contains the modulation sources. First, there are three
LFOs and three envelope
generators. The envelope generators offer delay, hold, attack, decay,
sustain and release settings and an offset option. The LFOs have adjustable
sine, triangle, square, random triangle and sample-and-hold wave forms and
can be synchronized to the hosts beat and tempo. Other
modulation sources are: velocity, aftertouch, keyboard track, modulation
wheel, and pitch bend. For every source, there is a source icon, which can
be dragged to any target knob in the interface.
MIDI Learn offers the possibility to easily associate
any controller with any plug-in parameter. Finally, different polyphony and
unison settings which give you the possibility to create super-fat sounds.
- Presets
With the preset buttons, you can easily browse through the factory presets
or save your own sounds so you can re-use them in other songs. See Presets.
