Omar Hakim

Omar Hakim is a drummer, producer/engineer, composer, educator and entrepreneur. His work spans many genres of music, and he has worked with some wonderful artists throughout his career, like Daft Punk, David Bowie, Sting, Madonna, Foo Fighters, Marcus Miller, Miles Davis, Neal Schon & Journey, Weather Report to name just a few.

Omar has also been a bandleader and solo artist, besides working on projects together with his wife, pianist and keyboardist extraodinaire Rachel Z-Hakim (Peter Gabriel, Wayne Shorter). They work on projects like “The Trio of OZ” (acoustic jazz) and the most recent band project Ozmosys, featuring Omar and Rachel along with the great Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitar and the fabulous Linley Marthe on bass. They already released an EP called “Eyes To The Future, Volume 1” and they are currently working on the full length version of the album which will be released in the Fall of 2020!

I first heard about FabFilter through a friend at Avid who strongly recommended the plugins. Looking into it further, I realized many of my colleagues were already using them, including Bob Power and Neil Dorfsman. Even my wife, keyboardist Rachel Z, was using them in her pre-production work.

The first plugin I really explored was Pro-Q 3. The sound, clarity, and interface immediately stood out. It combines multiple tools into one in a very efficient way. As I explored more of the lineup, I found the same level of quality and intuitive design across the board.

Having tools like this makes the workflow smoother and more enjoyable. Thanks to the FabFilter team for creating such thoughtful and effective music production tools.
