Sasami Ashworth

SASAMI, born Sasami Ashworth, has been a sought-after "jack of all trades" in the indie music world since returning to her hometown of Los Angeles following graduation from classical conservatory at Eastman School of Music. From playing in Cherry Glazerr, to touring with Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, Mitski, Japanese Breakfast, and HAIM, to producing records by King Tuff (Smalltown Stardust) and Hand Habits (Fun House), not to mention producing, writing, arranging, and engineering her own genre-bending work, her skills and sensibilities have enlivened an industry that can often feel uninspiring. With her 2022 second solo album, Squeeze, and tours to support it, SASAMI confronted the mostly male landscape of metal and has brought theatrics, haunted house lighting, and playful aggression to both dive bars and arena stages alike. Now based in West Marin, California, she's exploring the poetic language of naturalists as well as Britney Spears's early aughts "guilty pleasure" (minus the guilt) aesthetics as she weaves together new material.
- Tape Op Magazine

Whether delving deep into the sonic textures of shoegaze and dream pop as on her 2018 self-titled debut album, or exploring the violent nature of nu-metal on 2022's Squeeze, she fully embraces the confessional nature of contemporary singer/songwriters as well. By the time of 2025's Blood on the Silver Screen, she had evolved into an artist assured enough to take on mainstream pop and wrestle it into submission.

Sasami Ashworth and FabFilter

FabFilter plugins are a staple in my and post of my collaborators' plugin toolboxes. I use FabFilter Pro-Q 4 on pretty much everything, from main vocals to bass to string sections to surgically dial exactly what frequencies I need to suppress or boost to create whatever harmonic silhouette the specific composition is asking for. I have been dabbling with Saturn to create depth and texture mostly with D.I. electric guitars, but also on vocals I want to bring more character out of. My early recording background was largely using hardware and recording to tape, so I still find plugin FX to be endlessly inspiring and create potential for so much world building. Looking forward to testing out the most updated versions of these tools and exploring the full suite eventually!
